Project Title: Gillespie Park
Location: London
Wood Species: THERMOWOOD (PINE)
Product Description
The Project
Thermowood heat treated timber seemed ideal for glulam to form the entrance canopy to this environmentally sensitive project. The process preserves without added chemicals and improves dimensional stability.
The perimeter beams are 135 x 280 deep with 42 x 280 edge jointed ribs. The 9.7m x 7.2m double curved entrance ‘canopy’ is formed from the classic straight components of a Hyperbolic Paraboloid - a structurally efficient form which was very popular in the 1950’s & 60’s. A square or diamond on plan is bounded by straight lines but with one corner higher than the other three. Opposing sides are connected by straight lines generating twisted planes
