Project Title: Treviso

Wood Species: OAK
Project Description
The Project
Ercol has been making high quality furniture since 1920 when it was founded by Lucian Ercolani, grandfather of the current chairman Edward Tadros. We employ 150 people in a 160,000 sq ft highly sustainable purpose built factory in Princes Risborough.
We have recently asked Matthew Hilton to design a range for us. Matthew’s ability to design in solid wood has always been particularly impressive. This desk and chair are part of a cabinet and table range in Oak. The desk is designed to have minimum form with a high degree of functionality for working at home. The chair is a classic of chair design in its form and in its comfort.
Both pieces are made in solid white oak, sourced in Europe. The design uses classic and traditional wood working techniques of jointing, mortice and tenon joints, mitred joints and dovetail jointing for the drawers. The machining is done in bulk on CNC machining centres in our factory.
Cramping up and assembly is done by hand as is the finishing of each piece. The finish is two coats of a clear water borne lacquer sprayed on and then sanded by hand between coats. The final finishing operation is sanding down by hand and applying a wax finish. This creates a natural looking and extremely durable final coating to the timber.
The desk will retail in the UK for £1,250 and the chair for £600.
