Mears Group Sponsors Wood Awards Gold Award

The Wood Award’s most prestigious accolade – the Gold Award – will be sponsored by Mears Group for 2018.

The Mears Group Gold Award will be awarded to the project that the judges deem to be the best of all winners, celebrating the very best of British design and craftsmanship using wood.

Previous Gold Award winners include Coastal House, Devon by 6a Architects, Maggie’s at the Robert Parfett Building by Foster + Partners, The Fishing Hut by Niall McLaughlin Architects and the Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft by Adam Richards Architects.

The Wood Awards: Excellence in British Architecture and Product Design is the UK’s premier competition for excellence in architecture and product design in the world’s only naturally sustainable material. The Awards’ elite independent judging panel of professional experts and specialists not only judge the submitted entries but visit the shortlisted projects in person, making the Wood Awards as meaningful and rigorous a competition as possible.

As a not-for-profit competition, the Wood Awards can only happen with collaborative industry sponsorship. Alongside Mears Group, Major Sponsors of the Wood Awards 2018 are American Hardwood Export Council, the Carpenters’ Company and TRADA. Other sponsors include American Softwoods, Arnold Laver, Forestry Commission, Timber Trade Federation, Wood for Good, Furniture Makers’ Company and London Design Fair.

The Wood Awards shorlist will be announced on 25 July and the winners will be announces at the Wood Awards ceremony on 20th November 2018 at Carpenters’ Hall in London. The shortlisted projects will be on display at the ceremony and at the London Design Fair at Old Truman Brewery, 20-23 September.
