Entwining native Scottish stone and timber, these sculpted objects materialise the cycles of nature and draw connections between natural elements, materials and forces.

Each of the Endless Orbit pieces entails a hand-carved timber disk scribed to fit closely, like a halo, around a Lewisian gneiss stone, collected from a remote cove in the north-west Highlands. Grounding the forms are totem plinths, shaped to celebrate the grain contours of the elm and larch timbers, and featuring inlayed butterfly joint details following the natural wood checking.

Using scribing and traditional boat-building techniques, the timber plinths and disks are perfectly formed to fit seamlessly and securely around the shape of the stones. Supportive joints connect the structures and allow each form to be supported by the other, and by the most natural force–gravity.
