Levity Collection
Project Info
Celebrating the aesthetic of homegrown ash, the Levity Tables and Chairs offer a harmonious blend of lightweight elegance, engineered construction and time-honoured craftsmanship.
A single continuous piece of steam-bent ash forms the arms and backrest of the armchair, gently hugging the sitter while offering robust structural integrity. The seat has similarly been skilfully contoured for maximum comfort. A stacking version of the armchair allows four to neatly stack together when space is tight.
A range of tables sized for two, four and six people are intentionally simple, allowing the chairs to take centre-stage. Bespoke fixtures mean the legs can be removed for ease of delivery and access, and a robust frame ensures ample legroom. The tabletop provides the perfect canvas to showcase the characterful grain of the timber.
In the workshop, boards are carefully marked out to maximise yield, then cut with a 5-Axis CNC machine to create highly accurate leg, rail, seat and tabletop components. The chair arm and back support are steambent to shape from a selected piece of air-dried ash, before resting in a former in a kiln for a week. The CNC then machines curved surfaces and fixing joints, before each piece is assembled and finished by hand, using a durable, non-toxic oil that preserves the raw tones of the timber and provides a pleasing finish to touch.
