W3

Project Info

Showcasing timber as structure and façade, this fully accessible community building offers a range of amenities for King’s Cross residents and visitors.

Providing a café, gym and creche, W3 is an intergenerational hub promoting social interaction, physical activity and community engagement. With carefully articulated scale and massing, the three-storey building softens the boundary between the existing rail infrastructure and new residential developments.

Connections between the building’s occupants and urban nature are created with seamless transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces, while a striking concertina timber façade to the ground floor welcomes people into the building.

Displaying engineered timber in a contemporary and distinctive way, W3 highlights its unique aesthetic qualities as well as its potential as a flexible and environmentally friendly construction material.
