THE WOOD AWARDS 2013 – CALL FOR ENTRIES EXTENDED TO 31st MAY

Due to demand, the deadline for this year’s Wood Awards has been extended by one week to Friday, 31st May 2013.

Use the Wood Awards to showcase work you’re proud of, getting recognition for your achievements, demonstrate expertise in your field, raise awareness of your company and benefit from great PR in professional, consumer, regional and national media.

To enter, all you need is:

  1. Permission from the owner of the building or furnitur
  2. Contact details of the key companies involved
  3. A brief description of the project (remember to include as much information on the wood and wood-products as you can – species, brands, countries of origin etc.)
  4. At least 3 .jpeg high resolution images which really show off your project

And that’s it! The Wood Awards is open to architectural projects and furniture pieces designed in the UK (Great Britain and Northern Ireland), completed from January 2010 to June 2013 and not previously entered.

Anyone associated with an eligible project – architects, designers, manufacturers, engineers, timber suppliers, consultants or even the client themselves – can enter. It’s free, and any number of entries can be submitted and the brand new online entry form on www.woodawards.com features a “save your progress” option to make the entry process even easier.

The main categories for the Wood Awards 2013 are:

  • Commercial & Public Access
  • Private
  •  Structural
  • Repair & Adaptive Reuse
  • Small Project
  • Bespoke Furniture
  • Production Made Furniture.

For the first time, the shortlisted Furniture categories pieces will be exhibited at this year’s 100% Design from 18th to 21st September – the biggest event during the London Design Festival. A showcase of all the shortlisted projects will also be exhibited at the UK timber event Timber Expo from 24th to 25th September at its new location at the NEC in Birmingham.

This year, entrants don’t even have to be shortlisted to benefit from entering the Wood Awards. The competition is offering the opportunity to help grow entrant’s social media presence by featuring all entries on the Wood Awards Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest sites. This online exhibition of entries will give entrants the opportunity to increase their profile before the shortlist is even considered.

The Wood Awards is the UK’s premier award scheme recognising, encouraging and promoting outstanding design, craftsmanship and installation in wood and, with permission from the owner, anyone associated with an eligible project can enter.

For 2013, Canada Wood returns as a lead sponsor, once again joining founding sponsors the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) and the Carpenters’ Company, with major sponsors Wood for Good and TRADA. Other sponsors include American Softwoods and support from BRE, and this year Wood Awards also welcomes the return of the Forestry Commission.
