After a very successful 2012, the Wood Awards – the UK’s premier award scheme for the world’s only naturally sustainable material – will launch its 2013 Call for Entries at Ecobuild on the 5th March.
As Britain’s premier architecture and furniture competition celebrating excellence in design and craftsmanship using timber, the aim of the Wood Awards is to recognise, encourage and promote outstanding design, craftsmanship and installation in wood.
The Wood Awards 90m2 exhibition space on stand S1140 will open with a champagne reception on the first day of Ecobuild, and will feature all 30 of 2012’s building and furniture shortlisted projects, including 2012 Gold Award winner David Morley Architects’ Hurlingham Club Outdoor Pool and Bespoke Furniture award winner Rupert McBain’s future antique Extending Oak Table. The American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC), American Softwoods and the timber industry’s sustainability and promotion campaign Wood for Good all support the Wood Awards at Ecobuild 2013.
David Hopkins, head of communications and external affairs for Wood for Good said, “The Wood Awards educates, informs and ultimately inspires the use of timber and wood products in an ever increasing number of applications and designs. Launching the Call for Entries at Ecobuild, the world’s largest event for sustainable design, gives us a great opportunity to showcase just some of what wood can do. We will inspire as many people as we can to consider and use wood in their buildings, and encourage those who already do, to enter!”
With Ecobuild attracting the design and construction industry’s most influential professionals, including the largest gathering of architects in the UK, the Wood Awards anticipates a bumper crop of entries for 2013.
As the flagship for wood in the best of British architecture, furniture and design, the Wood Awards is make possible by the major sponsorship of AHEC, Canada Wood, the Carpenters’ Company, TRADA and Wood for Good. Other sponsors include American Softwoods, with support from BRE.
The Wood Awards is free to enter, and building and furniture entries completed in the last two years and not entered before, can be submitted from 5th March. Visit www.woodawards.com for details.
