The Wood Awards is calling for bespoke and production-made furniture entries for its 2013 competition. Closing deadline is 24th May **now extended to 31st May** and this year, the selected shortlist will be exhibited at 100% Design in September, the biggest event during the London Design Festival.
The two furniture categories – Bespoke and Production-made – are designed to recognise British designed one-off individually crafted pieces as well as batch- and mass-production furniture, and the exhibition of the eventual shortlist at 100% Design 2013 will give both a unique platform for greater exposure. 100% Design is officially the UK’s largest design trade event attracting architects, interior designers, retailers and designers. Held from 18th to 21st September, the event is expected to attract over 30,000 visitors.
The Wood Awards is open to projects and furniture pieces designed in the UK and Northern Ireland, completed in the last two years and not previously entered. There is no entry fee, any number of entries can be submitted and the brand new online entry form on www.woodawards.com features a new option to “save your progress” to make the straightforward entry process even easier and more convenient.
But entrants don’t even have to be shortlisted to benefit from entering the Wood Awards. The competition is offering the opportunity to help grow British furniture designers, makers and manufacturers’ social media presence by featuring all entries on the Wood Awards Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest sites. This online exhibition of entries will give entrants the opportunity to increase their profile before the shortlist is even considered.
The Wood Awards is the UK’s premier award scheme recognising, encouraging and promoting outstanding design, craftsmanship and installation in wood and, with permission from the owner, anyone associated with an eligible project can enter.
For 2013, Canada Wood returns as a lead sponsor, once again joining founding sponsors the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) and the Carpenters’ Company, with major sponsors Wood for Good and TRADA. Other sponsors include American Softwoods, and this year Wood Awards also welcomes the return of the Forestry Commission.
