WOOD AWARDS EXTENDS ENTRY DEADLINE TO 3rd JUNE 2011

With increasing interest and in response to popular request, the Wood Awards has announced that the deadline for architecture and furniture entries has been extended by one week to 3rd June. As the UK’s premier architecture and furniture competition celebrating excellence in design in the world’s most sustainable building material, 2011 is already set to be an exciting year for the Wood Awards, and the extension gives potential entrants an extra opportunity to submit their projects.

This year there is no fee to enter, and the entry categories are designed to attract every type and size of project in construction, joinery and furniture. The categories are Commercial & Public Access, Private/Best Small Project, Structural, Conservation/Restoration, and Furniture, with the prestigious Gold Award going to the ‘winner of winners’. The judges may also, at their discretion, give special awards for Outstanding Design, Outstanding Craftsmanship, and Innovation. With permission from the owner, anyone associated with a qualifying building or furniture project – from timber supplier to designer – can enter projects completed between spring 2010 and May 2011.

The Wood Awards is supported by leading organisations involved in wood marketing and education in the UK including the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC), the Worshipful Company of Carpenters, the Forestry Commission, TRADA, Wood For Good, American Softwoods, the British Woodworking Federation, the Malaysian Timber Council, Canada Wood, Ontario Wood and the Québec Wood Export Bureau.

Entries should be made via the website www.woodawards.com where the easy entry form can be completed online, and where more information on the categories and how to enter can be found. The shortlist will be announced in June, and the winners will be announced in September at Timber Expo, Ricoh Arena, Coventry.
