What does it mean to shape buildings around a palette of available natural resources, with each material chosen for its particular strengths?
Bringing together speakers from three Wood Awards 2026 project teams, this live talk will explore how thoughtful combinations of hardwoods, softwoods, rammed earth, reclaimed materials, engineered timber and other bio-based materials can shape more resource-conscious design. The panel will consider how design can respond more directly to underused natural resources, what can be learnt from combining materials, how specification can support healthy, managed woodlands, and what changes are needed in the supply chain to make this approach easier.
Join us and learn how architects and engineers are working with a palette of timbers and bio-based materials in their buildings.
The talk will take place at the Material Matters Fair (where the Wood Awards 2026 shortlist will be exhibited) – it is free to attend for registered visitors.
