The Red Loop Windsor

Marrying the new and orthodox, the Red Loop Windsor is a contemporary take on the traditional continuous-arm Windsor chair.

Constructed entirely from British ash, this ambitious design was produced with a combination of skilful hand tool techniques and advanced machinery. The objective of the chair is to celebrate the increase in sustainable woodland management and the rising use of UK-grown timbers in the furniture industry.

Reversed mirrored loops operate both functionally and aesthetically, providing the backrest, arms and stretchers for the undercarriage of the chair. Locally grown green ash is used to create the steam-bends for these components. Two spheres, shaped with an electric lathe, form contemporary connections between the mirrored loops and add visual contrast to the straight-back sticks.

The use of a bright red stain emphasises the playful aesthetic of the piece while allowing the strong and beautiful grain of the timber to be visible.
