Grace – Longcase Clock
Project Info
DIMENSIONS: 210 X 60 X 30
‘Grace’ is a contemporary evolution of the traditional longcase clock, made from bleached solid oak and burr oak veneer.
It is the first of a series of contemporary clocks designed by Tom Kealy, in a unique collaboration with clockmaker Julius Schoonhoven. Both the case and the movement are individually handmade.
The eight day movement, made using brass and steel, has a recoil anchor escapement and is spring driven with a fusee. It is regulated by a one second, (Royal), pendulum.
Inside the case there are a set of five drawers. Because the clock is spring driven it was possible to use the space that the weights would normally occupy to accommodate the drawers, thereby enabling the clock to become more than just a sculptural timepiece. The drawers are made using limed oak with sycamore sides.
